Are You A Texter Or A Facetimer? I Am A Not Disturber...

Updated: Apr 17, 2023

The silent treatment is a form of abuse that says: I will punish you by no longer validating your existence.

It got me thinking...

No matter how we choose to communicate, we need to remember that every form of communication carries its own message. A text message can be quick and convenient, but it can also be cold and impersonal. A phone call or video chat can be more personal, but it can also be intrusive and time-consuming.

And then there's the silent treatment. We've all experienced it at some point in our lives, and we all know how it feels. Silent treatment is a form of emotional abuse that involves refusing to communicate with someone as a means of punishment or control. It is often used as a power play in relationships and can have devastating effects on the person on the receiving end. At its core, silent treatment is a form of manipulation and control that sends a message of, "I will punish you by no longer validating your existence." By refusing to engage in communication, the abuser effectively erases the victim's existence, making them feel powerless and insignificant. The effects of silent treatment can be profound and long-lasting. It can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. The victim may feel confused, hurt, and rejected, not knowing what they have done to deserve such treatment. Moreover, silent treatment is often accompanied by other forms of emotional abuse, such as gaslighting, blaming, and shaming. The abuser may use the silent treatment to make the victim feel guilty for something they did not do, or to make them feel responsible for the abuser's emotions. It's important to note that silent treatment is not a healthy way of dealing with conflicts in relationships. Instead of punishing and controlling the other person, it's essential to communicate openly and honestly. Even if the conversation is difficult, it's better to confront the issue and work towards a resolution than to resort to silent treatment. If you're struggling with silent treatment or ghosting, seek support and help from trusted friends, family, or professionals.

And remember, a no response IS a response....
