Whether You Think You Can Or You Can’t, You Are Right

Progress not perfection… you can’t be perfect everything… but you can gain progress on a daily basis.

Let's give it a thought.

It's a phrase that's been thrown around so much that it's almost become cliche. But the thing is, it's true. Your mindset can make or break your success.

It's easy to get caught up in the destination and forget about the journey. We're all guilty of it at some point or another. We want to reach our goals as quickly as possible, and we beat ourselves up when we fall short. But what if we shifted our focus from the destination to the point of origin?

Progress should be measured from the point of origin, not proximity to the destination. It's a concept that's often overlooked, but it's so important. When we measure our progress from where we started, we can see just how far we've come. We can appreciate the small victories that we've achieved along the way, and we can use those victories as fuel to keep going.

Sure, maybe it could have been faster or sooner, with less bumps, less scars. But life isn't about avoiding the bumps and scars. It's about embracing them and using them to become stronger. Every obstacle we face, every challenge we overcome, is an opportunity for growth.

I can't help but think about how our mindset and perspective shape our lives. If we believe we can achieve something, we're more likely to put in the effort and make it happen. And if we measure our progress from where we started, we can see just how far we've come and use that as motivation to keep pushing forward.

Here are a few ways to cope with progress over perfection:

  1. Set realistic goals: One of the reasons we get caught up in perfection is that we set unrealistic goals for ourselves. Instead of aiming for perfection, try setting realistic goals that are achievable in the short-term. When you hit those goals, celebrate them and use them as motivation to keep going.

  2. Focus on the process, not just the outcome: It's important to remember that progress isn't just about the end result. It's about the journey and the steps you take to get there. When you focus on the process, you'll be more likely to make progress and less likely to get caught up in perfectionism.

  3. Embrace failure: Failure is a part of the process. It's how we learn and grow. Instead of beating yourself up when you fail, embrace it as an opportunity to learn and improve. Use failure as motivation to keep going and try again.

  4. Practice self-compassion: It's easy to be hard on ourselves when we don't meet our expectations. But it's important to practice self-compassion and be kind to ourselves. Treat yourself with the same kindness and compassion that you would offer to a friend who was struggling.

  5. Surround yourself with support: Having a support system can make a huge difference when it comes to coping with progress over perfection. Surround yourself with people who believe in you, support you, and encourage you to keep going.

In the end, progress over perfection is about accepting that we're all works in progress. We're not perfect, and that's okay. It's like we're all running a race, but instead of focusing on the finish line, we need to remember that every step we take is a victory in itself, and progress is the path that leads us there.
